You’ll spend a full morning tracking wild chimpanzees through Kibale’s dense canopy, widely considered Africa’s most reliable location for the encounter, before dropping into Queen Elizabeth’s open savanna for a dawn game drive and a Kazinga Channel cruise past some of the continent’s densest hippo pods. The safari’s centerpiece is a day spent trekking a habituated mountain gorilla family through Bwindi’s steep, tangled rainforest—an experience that regularly runs several hours before the one-hour encounter begins.
